Telephone services in equitable form and at equitable cost
Our telecommunications working group ensure that deaf and hard of hearing people are able to use telephones and telephone services in equitable form and at equitable cost.
Its work has included:
- Calling for motorway Emergency Roadside Telephones to be deaf friendly.
- Highlighting the problems that hearing aid users have when using a digital mobile phone, and assessing devices that can help.
- Campaigning for amendments to the Communications Act and pressing for fair representation of hard of hearing people on Ofcom's advisory committee's.
- Surveying telecommunications services in hospitals (including the new bedside phone & TV units) and aiming to ensure that the NHS makes these accessible for hard of hearing people.
- Monitoring the access to emergency services for hard of hearing people.
- Pressing for improved call steering services.
