Television and radio broadcasting
Our concern extends beyond the traditional forms of television and radio broadcasting to cover all delivery platforms, including the internet.
Our work includes:
Monitoring the quantity of subtitles. The major broadcasters’ output of subtitles on analogue television is monitored 24 hours a day, and the subtitling scoreboard is updated monthly.
Monitoring subtitling quality – including the performance of the set-top boxes which are bringing digital television to homes throughout the country.
Campaigning to make all broadcasters aware of the problems created for the hard of hearing by overlaying speech with music or effects; and persuading them to adopt a more sensitive approach. See Incidental music and effects.
