Empowerment

It's an important part of our work to encourage and help people with a hearing loss not to feel isolated but to be able to live as full and active a life as everybody else. You may be 'different' - but everybody is different in various ways, and you have an equal right to be different!

As a support network for the hard of hearing community, we work with both hearing and hard of hearing people to change attitudes about hearing loss through positive communication, information and awareness.

Our mission is to empower all hard of hearing people to overcome isolation and turn this difference into one of their greatest strengths!

We aim to encourage people not to let their hearing loss be an obstacle for them but to turn the challenge of managing their hearing loss into a positive stepping-stone for the future. With the right attitude, and with technical help if necessary, you can move towards achieving all your hopes and ambitions.

Believing that disabled people should not face discrimination in areas such as employment, getting goods or services or buying land or property, we work in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) and also in line with the Human Rights Act (1998) dealing with the prohibition of discrimination (article 14).

An important aspect of empowering yourself is to have the confidence to take responsibility for your communication needs. This means making clear to other people what they need to do to communicate with you most effectively.
